On May 4th, the Holy Father promulgated the Decree recognizing the heroic virtues of Cardinal François-Xavier Nguyên Van Thuân and authorized the Venerabilty of the Cardinal.

Few like him, in our time, were really heroic, especially in the virtue of hope. The thirteen years in prison, under harsh conditions, have made him, in fact, a "witness to hope", theme to which he has devoted numerous thoughts and writings that have become best sellers all over the world.

To celebrate the Decree, and on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of his death, the Dicastery for promoting Integral Human Development organizes a solemn Mass of Thanksgiving on 15 September 2017 at 10 am, at the Church of Santa Maria della Scala in Rome.

The Ceremony will be presided by Cardinal Peter K. A. Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery.

During the day, a book written by Ms. Elisabeth Nguyen-Thi-Thu-Hong, Cardinal Van Thuan's sister, will be presented.

The book, entitled "Deux vies A Message" , is on the story of Cardinal and Father Marcel Nguyen-Tan -Van, a Vietnamese priest who faced events similar to those of the Venerable Van Thuan.
