The International Award Father Pino Puglisi, established in 2005, is organized by Jus Vitae NGO, CISL Palermo and The Brass Group, with the support of the President of the Italian Republic, the patronage of the Senate and the University of Palermo. It is an event dedicated to the memory of the Sicilian priest killed by the Mafia in September 15, 1993, and who will be beatified on May 25, 2013.
The eighth edition of the Award took place in Palermo at the Politeama Theatre, December 6, 2012. This edition was dedicated to the children of the districts at risk of Palermo, often forgotten and marginalized by society.
The prize has been awarded the President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, Peter K. A. Turkson, because " today more than ever, he is a voice and a point of reference to which Christians approach for his honesty and clarity."
Among the nine award-winning, the Italian director Roberto Faenza, the green berets of the Emergency Group of the Italian Guardia di Finanza of Palermo, and the Chief Prosecutor of Rome Giuseppe Pignatone.
